A day in the watrr

This was our best day in Dominica out of several memorable ones. We visited three reefs for snorkeling including Champaign Reef with its bubbles. We saw hundreds of dolphins, and ended at the famous beach hot spring. Our guide Hubert was knowledgeable and very accommodating.
Absolutely BEST excursion ever!

I must admit, I was a little leery . . . the title and description of this excursion changed after we booked but even the reviews that complained a little still were overall positive so we hung in there. We booked as a snorkeling adventure on the Mega Bite and the words "Mega Bite" were removed from the description and replaced with info about it may be from a boat or a van depending on availability and weather.
We completely lucked out! My wife and I were the only people booked. After a 2 minute walk to a nearby pier were taken to the Champagne Reef and Bubbles Beach aboard the Morning Glory with Captain Gus. He made several other stops along the journey and was very informative. The snorkeling was completely at our leisure. Capital Gus offered to join us in the water to guide us around but we were fine on our own once he pointed us in the right direction. The Champagne Reef was amazing, Bubbles Beach was interesting as a phenomenon but not really jacuzzi-like but still nice to experience. We also saw flying fish and a pod? (not sure if that is the correct term) of Melonhead Sharks. I cannot stress enough how well we were treated by Captain Gus and how much we enjoyed this excursion.
Wonderful staff

It turned out my wife and I were the only people taking the snorkel tour that morning. After being met outside the cruise port, we were led to the dock to board a center console fishing rig with Kirk. We felt rich with our own personal boat, captain and guide. Capt. Kirk said that the usual boat used for the tours had been damaged extensively in Hurricane Maria. We were given a coastal tour and vivid descriptions of the devistation caused by Huricane Maria on the way to Champaign Reef. The snorkeling at Champaign reef was outstanding. Kirk led us on a snorkel tour of the reef pointing out types of coral and fish that we would have otherwise missed. Kirk even found my sunglasses under 15 ft of water after I accidently dove in on my way to the hot springs we visited. He was truley outstanding.
Another "NO" boat

Like several people before me, we ere disappointed to meet our guide to find out there were only 3 of u for the tour. Plan B was some snorkelling and an island van tour.
First, the good points for the van tour portion, our guide was very good and pleasant.
Low points for the snorkeling and water portion. Unfortunately, the waters were a little rough and the access to the snorkel area(s) was somewhat challenging as you have to a far walk over uneven loose rocks. Then, getting into the water was again difficult as the waves at the shoreline were fairly strong making putting on your fins again pretty challenging. I have to tell you that we are a couple in our upper 60's
and I felt we should have been warned of these issues beforehand. I got banged up and was bruised a fair bit the next day. Also, the hot springs are was very disappointing as it turned out to be a large puddle with some warm water bubbling up.
Be sure to ask what you are getting before you go ! I don't think I would do this tour with out a boat.
Helpful/friendly guide but bad weather and mechanical issues

No boat for our group either which seems to be a theme in these reviews. But the land tour was more educational than I'm guessing the boat ride would have been. Weather did not cooperate - low visibility and choppy conditions, but the guide made the best of it and the bubble beach worked out for the most part - only 1/3 snorkel sites were doable. Very helpful/friendly guide, too bad about the other issues.
